Kejriwal offers prayers at Ayodhya Ram Mandir amid donation row, says ‘FIR is just eyewash, bigger players protected’

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday visited the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, offering prayers amid an escalating political controversy over alleged irregularities linked to temple donations.

Following his visit, Kejriwal addressed reporters and questioned the handling of the investigation into the donation row. He alleged that the First Information Report (FIR) registered in the matter was merely an "eyewash" and claimed that those allegedly responsible at higher levels were being protected.

"The FIR is just an eyewash. The bigger players are being protected," Kejriwal said, demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the allegations.

Visit comes amid political war of words

Kejriwal's visit comes at a time when the Ram Mandir donation issue has become the latest flashpoint between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition parties.

While the BJP has dismissed allegations of financial irregularities as politically motivated, Opposition leaders have sought greater transparency regarding the collection and utilisation of donations received for the temple.

The AAP leader said his visit to the Ram Mandir was one of faith and devotion but maintained that raising questions over alleged financial misconduct should not be viewed as being against the temple or religious sentiments.

BJP rejects allegations

The BJP has strongly rejected the Opposition's claims, maintaining that the trust associated with the Ram Mandir functions transparently and in accordance with established procedures.

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticised Opposition leaders over the controversy, urging them not to "cast an evil eye on Ayodhya." He accused political rivals of attempting to tarnish the image of the temple town and undermine a project supported by millions of devotees.

Political row intensifies

Kejriwal reiterated that if any wrongdoing has occurred, the investigation should identify and act against all those involved, irrespective of their position.

The Ram Mandir donation issue has quickly evolved into a major political debate, with the ruling party and the Opposition trading allegations over accountability, transparency and governance. As the controversy unfolds, the issue is expected to remain at the centre of political discourse in the coming days.
