BJP accuses Priyanka Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra of land grab attempt in Uttarakhand

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has levelled fresh allegations against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her husband, businessman Robert Vadra, accusing them of attempting to encroach upon government land in Uttarakhand.

The allegations were raised by BJP leaders, who claimed that a parcel of land associated with the Vadra family was found to overlap with government property. The ruling party demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, alleging that there had been an attempt to unlawfully occupy public land. (hindustantimes.com)

According to the BJP, officials conducting a land survey identified discrepancies in property records that allegedly indicated an encroachment on government-owned land. Party spokespersons accused the Congress of remaining silent over the issue and sought an explanation from Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra.

The Congress, however, strongly denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. Party leaders accused the BJP of attempting to divert public attention from governance issues by targeting opposition leaders with what they termed "false and fabricated" claims.

Sources familiar with the matter said the dispute relates to the demarcation of land boundaries rather than any established finding of illegal occupation. Revenue officials are expected to examine land records, survey maps and ownership documents before reaching any conclusion.

Robert Vadra has previously faced scrutiny over land transactions in multiple states, although he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The latest allegations have once again brought his business dealings into the political spotlight.

The BJP has demanded transparency in the matter and urged the Uttarakhand government to ensure that the inquiry proceeds without political interference. Congress leaders, meanwhile, have questioned the timing of the allegations, arguing that they are part of a broader campaign to malign opposition figures.

Legal experts note that land ownership disputes are generally resolved through revenue authorities and courts after verification of official records. Any determination regarding encroachment or illegal possession would depend on the findings of the ongoing survey and subsequent legal proceedings.

The controversy has intensified the political exchange between the BJP and the Congress, with both parties trading accusations over accountability and governance. As the inquiry continues, officials are expected to verify land documents and survey records before deciding on any further administrative or legal action. (hindustantimes.com)
