CBSE Extends Class 12 Answer Sheet Access Deadline
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for Class 12 students to apply for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets after widespread technical issues disrupted access to the official portal. Thousands of students across India, including West Bengal, complained of server failures and payment glitches following the declaration of board examination results earlier this week.

CBSE Gives Relief to Class 12 Students After Portal Glitches
The Central Board of Secondary Education has extended the last date for Class 12 students to apply for scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets after repeated complaints over technical failures on its official website.
The decision came after students from several states reported difficulties logging into the CBSE portal, completing payments, and downloading application forms. The issue intensified during peak traffic hours as lakhs of students attempted to access the system simultaneously after the declaration of the 2026 board examination results.
According to officials, the revised deadline will remain open for an additional two days to ensure students are not denied the opportunity because of server disruptions.
The extension applies specifically to students seeking photocopies of evaluated answer books before applying for verification of marks or re-evaluation.
Students Faced Login Failures and Payment Errors
Soon after the answer sheet application window opened, social media platforms were flooded with complaints from students and parents.
Many reported blank screens, OTP failures, repeated session expiries, and unsuccessful payment transactions. Some students said money was deducted from their bank accounts while the application remained incomplete on the portal.
Parents from Kolkata, Durgapur, Siliguri, and Haldia also raised concerns in school WhatsApp groups and online forums.
“I tried six times since morning and the website kept crashing after payment,” said Ananya Bhattacharya, a Class 12 commerce student from Haldia. “The deadline was approaching and students were panicking.”
Several CBSE schools in West Bengal confirmed they received calls from anxious students who feared losing the opportunity to request answer sheet copies.
A senior administrator at a CBSE-affiliated school in East Midnapore said the problem was widespread.
“The portal slowed down heavily during afternoon hours. Students were unable to upload details properly. Extending the deadline was necessary,” the official said.
What CBSE Said
In a brief notice uploaded on its examination portal, CBSE acknowledged the “technical difficulties experienced by candidates” and announced a revised timeline for applications.
Board officials said the surge in simultaneous traffic caused temporary instability in the online system.
“The board has taken note of the inconvenience faced by students. Necessary technical measures are being implemented to stabilise access,” a senior CBSE examination official said.
Students can apply through the official CBSE examination services portal using their roll number, school number, and admit card ID.
The board has advised students to avoid repeated payment attempts if the transaction page freezes and instead verify application status after some time.
Why Scanned Answer Sheets Matter
Under the revised post-result grievance process introduced by CBSE over the last few years, students first obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before requesting verification or re-evaluation.
The system was designed to increase transparency and help students identify unchecked answers, totaling errors, or marking discrepancies.
Education experts say many students now prefer checking answer sheet copies before applying for re-evaluation because it reduces unnecessary fees and confusion.
“This process allows students to make informed decisions,” said education consultant Soumitra Das from Kolkata. “Earlier, students applied blindly for rechecking. Now they can see where marks may have been lost.”
The move has become especially important for students competing for admission to top colleges, engineering institutes, medical coaching programmes, and central universities through CUET.
Even a difference of two or three marks can affect cut-offs significantly.
High Pressure After Board Results
This year’s CBSE Class 12 results recorded a pass percentage above 87 per cent nationally, according to board data released earlier this week.
In West Bengal, schools reported strong performances in science and commerce streams, but many students narrowly missed distinction brackets or eligibility marks required for competitive programmes.
As a result, applications for verification and answer sheet copies surged immediately after results were announced.
Education portals tracking student activity reported unusually high traffic volumes during the first 24 hours after the application window opened.
Cyber experts say government examination portals across India often struggle under sudden demand spikes.
“These systems receive millions of concurrent requests in a short span,” said Kolkata-based technology analyst Arindam Sen. “Without scalable cloud infrastructure, temporary outages become common during board result seasons.”
Students in Smaller Towns Hit Harder
The disruptions affected students in smaller towns more severely because many depend on mobile internet connections and shared cyber cafés.
In Haldia and nearby districts, several students said they had to travel to local browsing centres multiple times after failed attempts.
“I finally submitted the form late at night when the traffic reduced,” said a student from Mahishadal preparing for CUET admissions. “The site was unusable during daytime.”
Teachers say the extension has reduced stress at a crucial academic stage.
“This is admission season. Students are already under pressure from entrance exams and counselling,” said a school counsellor in Kolkata. “Any technical delay adds unnecessary anxiety.”
Political and Public Reactions
Opposition leaders and education activists criticised recurring digital infrastructure problems in national examination systems.
Some questioned why platforms handling lakhs of applications still suffer repeated breakdowns during predictable peak periods.
Student organisations also demanded a more stable grievance redressal mechanism and clearer communication from authorities.
However, many parents welcomed the board’s quick decision to extend the deadline instead of forcing students to bear the consequences of technical failures.
On social media platform X, hashtags related to CBSE answer sheets and revaluation remained among trending education topics through the day.
What Students Should Do Next
CBSE has advised students to carefully review all details before submitting applications online.
Students applying for scanned answer sheet copies should:
Keep roll number and admit card details ready
Avoid multiple payment attempts during slow server response
Save confirmation receipts after successful submission
Monitor official CBSE notifications for further schedule updates
After receiving scanned copies, students may proceed with verification of marks or re-evaluation within the prescribed timeline.
Education experts are also advising students not to panic over minor score differences unless they significantly affect admission eligibility or scholarship criteria.
What Happens Next
CBSE officials indicated that technical teams are continuing to monitor portal performance as applications for verification and re-evaluation continue over the coming days.
The board is also expected to issue separate timelines for Class 10 post-result processes shortly.
For now, the extension offers temporary relief to thousands of students racing against admission deadlines and competitive examination schedules across the country.
In cities like Haldia, where many families see board examination scores as a gateway to engineering, medical, and government career opportunities, even a small administrative extension can make a significant difference.
