‘Biggest news of the day’: Fadnavis, Uddhav on same flight to Nagpur, viral video sparks buzz; parties dismiss speculation
A chance encounter between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray aboard the same Mumbai-to-Nagpur flight has set political circles abuzz, with videos of the leaders travelling together going viral on social media.
The footage, which quickly gained traction online, prompted widespread speculation over whether the shared journey hinted at a thaw in relations between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT). However, leaders from both parties were quick to dismiss such suggestions, describing the incident as nothing more than a coincidence.
Fadnavis was travelling to Nagpur for official engagements, while Uddhav Thackeray, accompanied by his son and MLA Aaditya Thackeray and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, was heading to Vidarbha as part of his political outreach programme. The leaders were seen seated in different parts of the aircraft, and there was no indication of any formal political discussion during the journey.
Reacting to the viral video, BJP leaders downplayed the incident, saying political opponents are not personal enemies. They stressed that sharing a commercial flight should not be viewed through a political lens or interpreted as a sign of changing alliances. Similar sentiments were echoed by leaders from the Shiv Sena (UBT), who also rejected speculation surrounding the episode.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also weighed in on the discussion, remarking that too much was being read into what was essentially an ordinary flight. His comments sought to dispel rumours of any political significance attached to the viral visuals.
The shared flight comes against the backdrop of an intensely competitive political landscape in Maharashtra, where the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi continue to trade barbs ahead of upcoming electoral battles. Uddhav Thackeray's Nagpur visit is part of his party's efforts to strengthen its organisation in the Vidarbha region, while Fadnavis continues to oversee government programmes in the state.
Despite the flurry of social media reactions and political commentary, leaders from both sides have maintained that the encounter was purely incidental. For now, the viral video remains a talking point in Maharashtra politics, but both camps insist there is no larger political message behind the shared journey.
