Fake Will, Death Certificate and Bid to Grab Kamal Nath’s Ancestral Land in Bijnor

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has become the complainant in a property dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, where police are investigating an alleged attempt to take over his late father’s ancestral land using forged documents.

The case concerns around 2 hectares of agricultural land in Amikhanpur village in Bijnor’s Najibabad area. According to the FIR, the property belonged to Kamal Nath’s late father, Mahendra Nath.

The matter came to light after Kamal Nath approached the Najibabad tehsildar’s court on May 18, 2026, seeking to have his inheritance over the agricultural land officially recorded.

However, during the process, the local lekhpal informed the revenue authorities that another case relating to the same property was already pending. As a result, the land was being treated as disputed.

It was while pursuing his inheritance claim that Kamal Nath allegedly discovered that another person was already attempting to establish a claim over the property.

According to the FIR, Dharampal Singh, son of Ratan Singh, produced what was described in the complaint as a “fake, forged and fabricated unregistered will.” The document was allegedly being used in proceedings before the Najibabad tehsil authorities to support a claim over the land.

The alleged forgery reportedly extended beyond the will. A purported death certificate of Mahendra Nath, dated April 10, 2003, was also placed on the case record.

Kamal Nath told the police that the death certificate was false. According to his complaint, his father actually died on September 7, 2004, at Escorts Hospital in New Delhi.

The complaint also raised questions about other details contained in the purported document. The name of Mahendra Nath’s wife was recorded as Premlata, which Kamal Nath said was incorrect.

The alleged use of these documents is now a major part of the police investigation. According to the FIR, the documents were allegedly intended to create a false chain of ownership and establish a claim over the ancestral property.

The FIR names Dharampal Singh, Jasbinder Singh Dhillon, Vijay Shankar Pandey and area lekhpal David Kumar, along with other alleged conspirators. The complaint alleges that they acted in collusion with one another with the intention of taking control of Kamal Nath’s family property.

Bijnor Superintendent of Police K K Bishnoi said that police have registered a case at Najibabad police station. Two people have been arrested in connection with the case, while another accused is reportedly absconding.

Police are also investigating whether the group may have been involved in similar attempts to obtain or transfer ownership of other properties through allegedly forged documents.

The case highlights the complications that can arise in property and inheritance disputes when ownership records, wills and death certificates are questioned. In this case, the police investigation will have to establish the authenticity of the disputed documents and determine who prepared or used them.

For now, the allegations contained in the FIR remain subject to investigation and further legal proceedings. The police are examining the documents and the alleged chain of events surrounding the property claim.
