Rajiv Anand Says His Name Was Marked ‘Unmapped’

IndusInd Bank Managing Director and CEO Rajiv Anand has said that he was informed that his name had been marked as “unmapped” in the electoral roll.

In a post on X on September 27, Anand said he had voted in every election since becoming eligible to vote. He also said he possesses a passport, PAN card, voter ID and Aadhaar card.

Anand questioned why he needed to appear for a hearing to prevent his name from being deleted from the voter list.

Anand Questions Verification Requirement

Anand expressed concern over being asked to undergo additional verification despite holding several government-issued identity documents.

In another post, he questioned the need for citizens to maintain multiple documents to establish their identity, highlighting Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID and passport. His comments were made in the context of the ongoing SIR exercise.

His remarks have drawn attention because the SIR process has resulted in notices being issued to voters whose electoral details have been flagged for discrepancies or could not be mapped to earlier electoral records.

What Is the Special Intensive Revision?

The Election Commission is conducting a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls as part of the process of updating and verifying voter records.

In Delhi, more than 33 lakh electors have been identified for notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms. A significant number of cases involve details that could not be matched with the electoral roll from the previous intensive revision conducted in 2002.

Being identified as “unmapped” or receiving a notice does not by itself mean that a voter's name has been deleted from the electoral roll. The verification process provides voters an opportunity to submit documents and respond to the notice.

Election Commission Eases Verification Process

The Election Commission recently announced measures intended to make the verification process easier for voters who receive notices during the SIR.

According to the EC, Booth Level Officers can visit the homes of people who have been issued notices for being “unmapped” or for logical discrepancies and collect the required documents. The documents can then be uploaded for consideration by the Electoral Registration Officer.

The EC also said such voters generally need not be called to the ERO or AERO office for a hearing. Hearings would be held only in exceptional circumstances, preferably online, as decided by the Electoral Registration Officer. An adult family member may also be authorised to attend a hearing on behalf of the elector when required.

Deadlines Extended in Delhi and Maharashtra

The Election Commission has also extended the period for filing claims and objections under the ongoing revision.

For Delhi, the deadline has been extended to October 30, 2026. In Maharashtra, the deadline has been extended to October 12, 2026.

The extensions are intended to provide additional time for voters to submit documents and address discrepancies identified during the revision process.

Rajiv Anand became Managing Director and CEO of IndusInd Bank on August 25, 2025, for a three-year term approved by the Reserve Bank of India.
