Karnataka CM Puts Officials on Drought Alert, Announces ₹1 Crore Aid for Every Taluk

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has instructed district administrations and relevant departments to closely monitor rainfall and water availability across Karnataka amid concerns over possible drought conditions.
Officials have been asked to take proactive steps to minimise the impact on agriculture and drinking water supplies.
₹1 Crore for Every Taluk
To strengthen preparedness, the Chief Minister announced ₹1 crore in immediate assistance for each taluk in the state.
The funds are expected to support:
Drinking water supply arrangements.
Drought mitigation measures.
Water conservation initiatives.
Immediate local relief works.
Assistance to vulnerable communities.
Directions to Officials
The Chief Minister instructed officials to:
Monitor rainfall and reservoir levels regularly.
Ensure adequate drinking water in rural and urban areas.
Prepare contingency plans for affected regions.
Coordinate with agriculture and disaster management departments.
Respond swiftly to emerging drought-related issues.
Focus on Farmers
The government said protecting farmers and safeguarding agricultural activity remain key priorities.
Departments have been asked to assess crop conditions and prepare support measures if rainfall deficiencies persist.
Looking Ahead
The Karnataka government will continue reviewing weather conditions and may announce additional relief measures depending on the progress of the monsoon and the severity of drought conditions.
