The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MAHA TET) 2026 has been postponed just one day before its scheduled date following allegations that the examination paper had been leaked.
The decision was announced by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) after reports of a suspected paper leak surfaced, raising concerns over the integrity of the recruitment examination. The postponement comes as a major setback for thousands of teaching aspirants across the state who had been preparing for the test.
According to officials, the exam was deferred as a precautionary measure to ensure a fair and transparent selection process. The authorities said they would not compromise on the credibility of the examination and decided to postpone it until a thorough inquiry is completed.
The state government has directed the concerned agencies to investigate the alleged paper leak and identify those responsible. Officials indicated that if any irregularities are confirmed, strict legal action will be initiated against those involved.
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination urged candidates not to believe rumours circulating on social media and advised them to rely only on official announcements regarding the revised examination schedule.
Thousands of candidates had already reached their respective cities or made travel arrangements ahead of the examination, making the last-minute postponement particularly challenging. Many aspirants expressed disappointment over the decision, while also acknowledging the need to ensure the examination is conducted fairly.
Education experts noted that postponing the exam, though inconvenient, was preferable to conducting a compromised test that could later be cancelled. They emphasised that maintaining transparency in recruitment examinations is essential to preserving public confidence in the selection process.
The revised examination date is expected to be announced after the investigation into the alleged paper leak progresses. Candidates have been advised to regularly check the official MSCE website for updates regarding the fresh schedule, admit cards and other instructions.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over examination security in India, where several competitive and recruitment tests have faced allegations of paper leaks in recent years. State authorities have assured candidates that additional safeguards will be implemented before the Maharashtra TET is conducted again.
Until the new date is announced, candidates are advised to continue their preparations and remain alert to official notifications to avoid misinformation.
