Govt under fire over another paper leak as Maharashtra TET 2026 postponed: ‘Is there any exam left?’
The Maharashtra government is facing fresh criticism after the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 was postponed just hours before it was scheduled to take place, following a suspected question paper leak.
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) announced the postponement after police reportedly uncovered materials resembling the TET question paper during a raid in Bhiwandi, Thane district. Authorities said the decision was taken to protect the integrity of the examination process while investigations continue.
The examination, originally scheduled for June 28, was expected to be taken by thousands of aspiring teachers across the state. Officials said a fresh examination date will be announced after the probe is completed, and candidates will be required to download new admit cards for the rescheduled test.
The incident has sparked outrage among candidates, many of whom took to social media to express frustration over repeated examination disruptions. One widely shared reaction asked, "Is there any exam left that doesn't get leaked?" reflecting growing concerns over the credibility of competitive examinations.
Opposition parties also targeted the state government, alleging that paper leaks have become a recurring problem. Political leaders accused the administration of failing to safeguard the examination process and demanded strict action against those responsible for the alleged leak.
According to preliminary reports, police detained several individuals after recovering documents believed to match the examination paper. Investigators are now examining whether an organised network was involved in the suspected leak.
The postponement adds to a series of controversies surrounding competitive examinations in recent years, with paper leak allegations affecting recruitment and entrance tests in multiple states. Such incidents have repeatedly raised concerns about examination security, transparency and the impact on lakhs of students preparing for career-defining tests.
Candidates have been advised to monitor official announcements from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination for updates regarding the revised examination schedule, fresh admit cards and other instructions.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on identifying those responsible and restoring confidence in the state's examination system.
