‘Where Is Mamitha Baiju’s Name?’: Sanam Shetty Calls Out Makers of Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ Over Poster Credit

The controversy has reignited conversations about gender representation and equal credit for female actors in the film industry.

Chennai: Actress Sanam Shetty has publicly questioned the makers of Suriya’s upcoming film Vishwanath and Sons after noticing that lead actress Mamitha Baiju’s name was missing from a recently released promotional poster for the film’s first single, Pattampoochi.
The poster, unveiled as part of the song’s launch campaign, featured Suriya and Mamitha Baiju. However, while the names of actor Suriya, music composer G.V. Prakash Kumar, director Venky Atluri and producers Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya were prominently displayed, Mamitha Baiju’s name was absent. The omission quickly drew attention on social media.
Sanam Shetty took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disappointment, reposting Mamitha’s announcement about the song. In a strongly worded message, she questioned why the lead heroine had not been credited on the poster despite being one of the film’s principal stars.
“What is stopping the makers to mention Lead Heroine's name on the poster? All other main names are mentioned except hers!” Sanam wrote. She further argued that actresses deserve equal recognition regardless of whether they are established stars or newcomers.
Calling the trend unfair, Sanam said Mamitha had earned her place in a major production through her work and popularity. She added that the film industry needed to evolve and ensure that female artists receive the same visibility and acknowledgment as their male counterparts.
The controversy comes as anticipation builds around Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri and headlined by Suriya and Mamitha Baiju. The film’s first single, Pattampoochi, composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, was released this week and has generated positive reactions from fans. The romantic track also highlights the on-screen chemistry between Suriya and Mamitha, which has become one of the talking points surrounding the film.
Mamitha Baiju, who rose to nationwide prominence with her performance in Premalu, plays the female lead opposite Suriya in the family drama. The film is among the actress’s most high-profile Tamil projects and is scheduled for release later this year.
As of now, the makers of Vishwanath and Sons have not publicly responded to Sanam Shetty’s criticism or addressed the omission. However, the episode has once again sparked debate over gender parity in film promotions and whether female leads receive adequate recognition in marketing campaigns.
The discussion has resonated with many social media users, with several backing Sanam’s call for equal credit and visibility for women in cinema. Whether the makers choose to revise future promotional material remains to be seen, but the issue has undoubtedly added an unexpected layer of attention to the film’s ongoing promotional campaign.
