Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has removed her nephew Akash Anand from the post of chief national coordinator, saying he requires further political maturity before being given major responsibilities in the party.

The decision was announced during a meeting of the BSP's national committee in Lucknow on Thursday. Mayawati said Anand would continue to work within the party but would not be entrusted with a significant organisational position at this stage.

Explaining the decision, Mayawati said she had permitted Akash Anand to remain active within the BSP but believed he needed additional maturity and experience.

She indicated that giving him a major responsibility at this point could expose the party to risks during elections, particularly as political opponents may attempt to weaken the BSP through various strategies.

From political successor to sidelined leader
