Rajasthan Civic Polls: BJP Wins 44, Congress 16 of 77 Unopposed Seats; 37 Women Among Winners

Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of unopposed victories in Rajasthan's ongoing urban local body elections, winning 44 of the 77 seats where candidates were elected without a contest.

According to election officials, 77 candidates, including 37 women, have been elected unopposed across Rajasthan. The Congress secured 16 seats, while the remaining 17 seats went to independent candidates.

The unopposed results give the BJP a clear lead before polling takes place for the remaining seats. Of the 77 uncontested victories, the BJP accounted for around 56.4 per cent, compared with 20.5 per cent for Congress and 23.1 per cent for independents.

37 Women Elected Unopposed

Women have made up a significant share of the candidates elected without a contest. Thirty-seven women are among the 77 unopposed winners, representing nearly half of the total.

Some of the youngest candidates to secure unopposed victories are also women. Congress candidate Sofia, 22, from Ramgarh Shekhawati Nagar Palika in Sikar district is the youngest among the winners. She is followed by Congress's Mona Bano, 23, from Basani Nagar Palika in Nagaur district, and BJP's Pinki Kumari, 24, from Pahari Nagar Palika in Deeg district.

The figures underline the growing participation of women in Rajasthan's grassroots political institutions and their presence in the current civic election process.

Deeg Records Highest Number of Unopposed Wins

Among the districts, Deeg recorded the highest number of uncontested victories with 10, followed by Chittorgarh with six and Sikar with five.

Alwar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur and Khairthal-Tijara recorded four unopposed victories each. Bharatpur, Bikaner, Jaipur district, Dholpur and Jalore recorded three each.

In Deeg, seven of the 10 candidates elected unopposed were independents. In contrast, all six unopposed victories in Chittorgarh went to BJP candidates.

In Bilara in Jodhpur, all four candidates elected unopposed were from the BJP. BJP candidates were also declared winners without a contest in several other areas, including Jalore, Dungarpur, Jhunjhunu, Pali and Rajsamand.

Congress Secures 16 Unopposed Seats

The Congress secured 16 unopposed victories across several districts, including Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Sri Ganganagar, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu and Kota.

The remaining 17 unopposed winners are independents, with such victories recorded in places including Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu and Karauli.

Jaipur Sees No Unopposed Winners

The state capital Jaipur has recorded a different pattern, with no candidate elected unopposed from any of its 150 wards.

The absence of uncontested victories in Jaipur means all 150 wards will remain part of the electoral contest, making the city's results particularly significant for the major political parties.

Polling for Remaining Seats on September 9 and 11

While 77 candidates have already secured their seats without facing an electoral contest, the political battle is far from over.

Elections for the remaining 232 urban local body seats are scheduled to take place in two phases on September 9 and September 11. The results are expected to determine the broader political balance across Rajasthan's urban local bodies.

The BJP's strong performance in the unopposed segment gives the ruling party an early advantage in the civic polls. However, the final outcome will depend on the results from the remaining contested seats, particularly in major urban centres such as Jaipur.

The civic elections are being closely watched as an important indicator of grassroots political strength in Rajasthan, with the BJP and Congress seeking to consolidate their respective support bases ahead of future political contests.
