RSS calls for strict action, says temple donation row has hurt devotees' sentiments

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday expressed strong concern over the alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling for a comprehensive probe and stringent action against anyone found guilty.

In a statement issued by RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, the organisation said it was "extremely pained and angered" by the incident, describing it as one that had deeply hurt the faith and sentiments of millions of Lord Ram devotees across the country.

Hosabale urged the government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation into the matter. He said those responsible should face severe punishment to restore public confidence in the management of the temple and ensure accountability.

The RSS also appealed to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to treat the alleged irregularities as an exceptional matter and address any shortcomings in its administrative and operational systems. According to the organisation, stronger financial oversight and transparent management are essential to preserving the faith of devotees.

At the same time, the RSS claimed that "anti-Hindu and anti-national forces" were attempting to exploit the controversy to malign Hindu dharma and Hindu society. The organisation appealed to the public to remain patient and not allow the incident to be used to spread misinformation or deepen divisions while the investigation is underway.

The controversy relates to allegations of theft and embezzlement involving donations and valuables offered at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Uttar Pradesh authorities constituted an SIT after the temple trust sought an investigation. Several individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and the probe is continuing.

The donation row has also triggered a political storm, with opposition parties demanding greater transparency and accountability in the handling of temple funds. Earlier, the Congress sought a Supreme Court-monitored investigation, while other political leaders have also called for an impartial inquiry.

The RSS maintained that the investigation should proceed swiftly and fairly, expressing confidence that transparent financial management and corrective measures by the temple trust would help reinforce devotees' trust in the Ram Janmabhoomi project.
