‘Only BJP Can Give a Self-Made Person Like Modi a Chance’: Shehzad Poonawalla Amid Resignation Buzz

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has strongly defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could give a self-made leader like Modi the opportunity to become Prime Minister.

His remarks come amid growing political speculation over a possible resignation and leadership transition within the BJP, claims that the ruling party has repeatedly dismissed.

Addressing reporters, Poonawalla said the BJP's internal culture allows leaders to rise on the basis of merit and public service rather than family background.

"Only the BJP can give a self-made person like Narendra Modi the opportunity to become Prime Minister," he said, contrasting the BJP's leadership model with what he described as dynastic politics in opposition parties.

Poonawalla also dismissed the ongoing resignation buzz, accusing opposition leaders of spreading rumours to create unnecessary political uncertainty. He maintained that the BJP remains united under Modi's leadership and focused on governance and development.

The comments come at a time when opposition parties have intensified their criticism of the Centre on several issues, fuelling speculation about the BJP's future leadership plans. However, senior BJP leaders have consistently denied any discussions about a change in leadership.

The BJP spokesperson further argued that Prime Minister Modi's political journey—from humble beginnings to the country's top constitutional office—demonstrates the party's commitment to rewarding hard work and dedication.

Political observers note that the remarks are part of the BJP's broader narrative of projecting Modi as a leader who rose through the party ranks without political inheritance, a message the party has frequently used to counter opposition attacks over governance and leadership.

While the opposition has continued to question the government's policies and leadership, the BJP has maintained that there is no basis for the speculation surrounding Modi's position and has reiterated its confidence in his leadership.

The political debate is expected to continue as Parliament remains in session, with both the ruling party and the opposition exchanging sharp attacks over governance, leadership and the country's political direction.
