Student Dies After Tree Falls on School Bus in Mumbai's Chembur, Four Others Hospitalised

A tragic accident in Mumbai's Chembur claimed the life of a school student on Tuesday after a tree collapsed onto a school bus carrying children. Four other students sustained injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred amid heavy rains in the city, with emergency response teams rushing to the spot to rescue those trapped inside the damaged vehicle.

Tree Collapses on Moving School Bus

According to officials, the school bus was travelling through Chembur when a large tree suddenly fell onto the vehicle.

The impact severely damaged the bus, prompting local residents, police personnel and emergency responders to launch rescue operations. The injured children were quickly shifted to hospital in ambulances.

Authorities later confirmed that one student succumbed to injuries, while four others are undergoing treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored.

Rescue Operation Launched

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), police and other emergency agencies reached the accident site shortly after receiving information about the incident.

Rescuers used equipment to remove tree branches and clear the road before safely evacuating the passengers.

Traffic in the area was temporarily affected as authorities worked to remove the fallen tree and restore normal movement.

Probe Underway

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tree collapse.

Civic authorities are expected to examine whether the tree had previously been identified as hazardous and whether routine inspections or maintenance had been carried out.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of ageing trees during Mumbai's monsoon season, when heavy rainfall and strong winds often increase the risk of trees collapsing.

Safety Concerns During Monsoon

Every year, Mumbai witnesses multiple incidents involving falling trees during the monsoon, prompting civic authorities to undertake tree pruning and structural assessments.

The latest tragedy has once again raised questions about preventive measures aimed at protecting commuters, schoolchildren and residents during adverse weather conditions.

Officials are expected to review tree maintenance protocols as part of the ongoing investigation.

Condolences and Further Action

The student's death has triggered an outpouring of grief, with local leaders and residents expressing condolences to the bereaved family.

Authorities have assured that all aspects of the incident will be examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

The injured students continue to receive medical treatment as investigators work to establish the exact cause of the tree collapse.
