‘Uncompromising and firm stand’: Vijay's TVK demands complete scrapping of NEET

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has renewed its demand for the complete abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), asserting that the party's position on the issue remains "uncompromising and firm."

The statement comes amid an intensifying national debate over medical entrance examinations and allegations surrounding recent examination irregularities, with NEET once again emerging as a key political issue in Tamil Nadu.

TVK reiterates anti-NEET position

In a statement, TVK said it remains steadfast in its opposition to NEET, arguing that the examination disadvantages students from rural areas, government schools and economically weaker sections.

The party maintained that admissions to medical colleges should instead be based on Class 12 board examination performance, a demand that has long been supported by several political parties in Tamil Nadu.

Calls for policy change

TVK urged the Union government to reconsider the national entrance examination system and introduce an admission mechanism that, according to the party, provides equal opportunities to all students regardless of their socioeconomic background.
