West Bengal to Distribute 70 Lakh Tricolours Ahead of Independence Day, Says Suvendu Adhikari

Kolkata: Ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has announced a statewide campaign to distribute nearly 70 lakh Tricolours across the state.

According to Adhikari, the initiative is intended to encourage widespread public participation in celebrating Independence Day by ensuring that every household, educational institution, business establishment and public office has access to the Indian National Flag.

Speaking about the campaign, Adhikari said the distribution drive would be carried out through party workers and volunteers across all districts of West Bengal. The programme is expected to reach urban as well as rural areas, with the objective of promoting patriotism and increasing public participation in the Independence Day celebrations.

The Tricolour distribution campaign comes as preparations for the August 15 celebrations gather pace across the country. Government offices, schools, colleges and various organisations are also expected to organise flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and awareness campaigns to commemorate India's freedom struggle.

The initiative follows the spirit of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which encourages citizens to proudly display the National Flag during Independence Day celebrations. The campaign has witnessed widespread participation in recent years and has become a prominent feature of the country's Independence Day observances.

Political observers believe such initiatives are likely to generate significant public engagement in the run-up to Independence Day, particularly in West Bengal where preparations for the national festival are already underway.

As Independence Day approaches, authorities have also urged citizens to display the National Flag with dignity and in accordance with the Flag Code of India, ensuring that the Tricolour is treated with the respect it deserves.
