The figures are based on the schemes' regular growth options, with NAVs considered as of September 14, 2026.
Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund Has the Highest NAV
Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund topped the list in terms of NAV at Rs 4,472.57.
The scheme was launched on October 8, 1995, and had generated a 21.80% CAGR since inception. Its assets under management stood at around Rs 52,270 crore as of August 2026.
Its high NAV reflects the effect of long-term compounding and does not, by itself, mean that the fund is more expensive or offers better value than a fund with a lower NAV.
Franklin India Mid Cap Fund
Franklin India Mid Cap Fund had the second-highest NAV among the 11 schemes at Rs 2,796.876.
The fund has been in the market for around 32.81 years and delivered a 18.74% CAGR since inception. Its AUM was around Rs 13,052 crore as of August 2026.
Three Flexi Cap Funds Feature in the List
Three flexi cap schemes made the list: HDFC Flexi Cap Fund, Aditya Birla SL Flexi Cap Fund and Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund.
HDFC Flexi Cap Fund had a NAV of Rs 2,035.23 and delivered a 17.01% CAGR since inception. The scheme, earlier known as HDFC Equity Fund, has been in the market for about 31.73 years and had an AUM of approximately Rs 1.13 lakh crore as of August 2026.
Aditya Birla SL Flexi Cap Fund had a NAV of Rs 1,933.21 and a since-inception CAGR of 20.64%. Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund had a NAV of Rs 1,574.24 and delivered a 17.14% CAGR. Their AUMs were around Rs 29,044 crore and Rs 19,384 crore, respectively, as of August 2026.
Sundaram Mid Cap Fund Delivered the Highest CAGR
Interestingly, the fund with the highest CAGR in this group was Sundaram Mid Cap Fund.
The scheme had a NAV of Rs 1,484.18 and delivered a 23.02% CAGR since inception. It was launched in July 2002 and had completed around 24.15 years in the market.
This shows why NAV and returns should not be confused. A fund does not need to have the highest NAV to have the highest historical CAGR.
Nippon India Vision Large & Mid Cap Fund
Nippon India Vision Large & Mid Cap Fund, earlier known as Nippon India Vision Fund, had a NAV of Rs 1,475.36.
The fund delivered a 17.51% CAGR since its inception in October 1995 and had an AUM of around Rs 7,903 crore as of August 2026.
Franklin India ELSS Tax Saver Fund
Franklin India ELSS Tax Saver Fund had a NAV of Rs 1,405.52 and delivered a 19.75% CAGR since inception.
The scheme, earlier known as Franklin India Taxshield Fund, had been in the market for approximately 27.45 years and had an AUM of around Rs 6,222 crore as of August 2026.
HDFC ELSS Tax Saver Fund and HDFC Large Cap Fund
Two HDFC Mutual Fund schemes also featured in the list.
HDFC ELSS Tax Saver Fund had a NAV of Rs 1,344.23 and delivered a 22.10% CAGR since inception. The scheme has been in the market for around 30.48 years.
HDFC Large Cap Fund, earlier known as HDFC Top 100 Fund, had a NAV of Rs 1,110.06 and delivered a 17.84% CAGR since inception. It has been in the market for approximately 29.95 years.
ICICI Pru Large & Mid Cap Fund
ICICI Pru Large & Mid Cap Fund was the final fund on the list, with a NAV of Rs 1,024.69.
The scheme, earlier known as ICICI Prudential Top 100 Fund, had been in the market for around 28.21 years and delivered a 17.85% CAGR since its inception in July 1998. Its AUM stood at approximately Rs 33,591 crore as of August 2026.
What Does a NAV Above Rs 1,000 Mean?
A high NAV does not automatically indicate that a mutual fund is expensive.
NAV represents the per-unit value of a mutual fund scheme. A fund that has been around for many years and has generated strong returns can accumulate a high NAV through compounding.
For example, two funds investing in similar assets can have very different NAVs because they may have different launch dates, dividend distributions, mergers or other scheme-related changes.
Therefore, investors should not select a mutual fund simply because its NAV is above or below a particular level.
Why Long-Term CAGR Matters
The most important feature of this list is the long investment history of the majority of these schemes.
Ten of the 11 funds have been in existence for more than 25 years. Long-term CAGR can provide a useful perspective on how a fund has compounded wealth across multiple market cycles.
However, historical CAGR is not a guarantee of future returns. Market conditions, portfolio composition, fund-management decisions and valuations can all change over time.
Important Limitation of the Comparison
The schemes in this list have undergone several changes over the years, and their benchmarks have also changed.
Because of these changes, ETMutualFunds noted that their historical performance cannot be directly compared with their respective benchmarks across the entire period.
The analysis included equity mutual funds while excluding sectoral funds, thematic funds and equity-oriented hybrid funds. Regular growth options were considered, and returns were calculated from each scheme's inception using the NAV as of September 14, 2026.
Should Investors Invest in These Funds?
The list can be useful for identifying equity schemes with long histories and strong historical returns, but it should not be treated as an investment recommendation.
Investors should consider their risk tolerance, financial goals, investment horizon, asset allocation, portfolio diversification and the current strategy of the fund before investing.
A fund's historical CAGR and high NAV are only two pieces of information. They do not guarantee that the same performance will continue.
Bottom Line
Eleven equity mutual funds had NAVs above Rs 1,000 as of September 14, 2026, and all had delivered more than 17% CAGR since inception.
Sundaram Mid Cap Fund recorded the highest since-inception CAGR at 23.02%, while Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund had the highest NAV at Rs 4,472.57. The list also included long-running flexi cap, ELSS, large cap and large & mid cap schemes.
The data highlights the potential impact of long-term equity investing and compounding. However, investors should not make investment or redemption decisions solely on the basis of NAV or historical returns.
