5 BLOs Suspended After BJP Worker Allegedly Found Photocopying 3,404 SIR Forms in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: Five Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been suspended after a BJP youth wing office-bearer was allegedly found photocopying 3,404 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral forms containing sensitive voter details at a shop in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

The incident has raised concerns over the handling and security of electoral documents linked to the Panvel Assembly constituency.

According to officials, the matter came to light after a local Shiv Sena (UBT) leader allegedly found Suraj Patil, an office-bearer associated with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), with thousands of SIR forms at a photocopying shop in Kharghar.

Over 3,400 SIR forms recovered

Authorities were alerted following the discovery, after which revenue officials examined the documents.

District officials reportedly confirmed that the seized forms were authentic electoral documents connected to the 188 Panvel Assembly constituency.

The forms reportedly contained sensitive information, including voters' photographs, personal details and official signatures of Booth Level Officers.

The discovery of such a large number of electoral forms at a private photocopying facility has triggered questions regarding the handling and security of voter-related documents.

Five BLOs suspended

Following the verification of the documents, authorities suspended five Booth Level Officers associated with the forms.

Officials said the documents were the responsibility of the BLOs, prompting disciplinary action against them.

The suspensions are subject to further inquiry as authorities investigate how the forms reached the private photocopying shop.

FIR registered against BJP youth wing office-bearer

The Nayab Tehsildar lodged an official complaint following the verification of the documents.

Police subsequently registered an FIR against Suraj Patil under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Representation of the People Act, according to officials.

Police said Patil was detained and later served a notice in accordance with standard legal procedure before being released.

Political controversy erupts

The incident has also triggered political reactions in Maharashtra.

The matter reportedly led to tensions between local workers of the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT), adding a political dimension to the controversy.

Opposition leaders are expected to raise concerns regarding the security and handling of electoral documents, while the BJP may respond to the allegations and developments surrounding the incident.
