Mithi River Desilting Case: Mumbai Police Question Bollywood Actor Dino Morea Again

Mumbai, October 2, 2026: Bollywood actor Dino Morea was questioned again by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Mithi River desilting project. This is the second time Morea has been questioned in the case, after he and his brother Santino Rocco Morea were questioned in May 2025.

According to police sources cited by Hindustan Times, Morea was summoned after investigators examined phone records that allegedly showed his contact with individuals linked to the case. The questioning is part of the ongoing probe into alleged financial irregularities surrounding desilting contracts awarded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Why is Dino Morea being questioned?

Morea's name came under the investigators' scrutiny because of his reported links with people who are accused in the Mithi River case.

In 2025, the EOW had questioned Morea and his brother after investigators found phone records indicating contact with individuals associated with the alleged scam. At the time, officials said the questioning was aimed at understanding the nature of those links.

The actor was subsequently questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of a separate money-laundering investigation linked to the alleged scam. In June 2025, he appeared before the ED and was questioned for several hours.

What is the Mithi River desilting case?

The case concerns alleged irregularities in contracts for desilting the Mithi River, an important stormwater channel in Mumbai.

The EOW registered a case in May 2025 alleging that certain BMC officials, contractors, middlemen and others were involved in irregularities that allegedly caused a wrongful loss of more than ₹65 crore to the civic body. The investigation has also examined contracts worth substantially more than the amount of alleged loss.

Investigators have previously alleged irregularities involving the transportation and disposal of excavated sludge and the use of allegedly false documents. The probe has resulted in arrests of individuals described by investigators as middlemen connected to the contracts.

ED had also searched Morea's residence

The actor's involvement in the wider investigation came under greater scrutiny in 2025 when the ED conducted searches at multiple locations connected with people named in the EOW case.

Morea's residence in Mumbai was among the locations searched during the agency's investigation into the alleged ₹65-crore-plus money-laundering case. He later appeared before the agency after being summoned.

The latest EOW questioning does not by itself establish wrongdoing by Morea. His questioning is part of an investigation, and authorities are seeking to establish the relevance of his reported contacts and financial or other links to people connected with the case.

Probe continues

The Mithi River case remains under investigation, with agencies examining alleged irregularities in civic contracts and the flow of funds. Morea's latest appearance before the EOW indicates that investigators are continuing to examine connections surrounding the alleged scam.

The actor has previously been questioned by both the EOW and the ED in relation to the matter. Being questioned or summoned does not, by itself, mean that a person has been found guilty of an offence.
