97 Crore Voters, 1.8 Crore Election Workers: CEC Highlights Scale of India's Polls

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has highlighted the extraordinary scale of India's electoral process, pointing to the participation of around 97 crore voters and 1.8 crore election workers in the country's elections.

Speaking about the functioning of India's electoral system, the Chief Election Commissioner underlined the enormous logistical exercise involved in conducting elections across a country as geographically and demographically diverse as India.

With nearly a billion registered voters, elections in India require extensive planning, coordination and deployment of personnel across urban centres, rural areas and difficult-to-reach locations.
