Abhijeet Dipke Alleges Police Are ‘Not Taking Calls’ on Protest Extension, Says ‘Won’t Leave Until Pradhan Resigns’

New Delhi: Protest leader Abhijeet Dipke has intensified his criticism of the authorities amid an ongoing demonstration at Jantar Mantar, alleging that police officials are not responding to communication regarding an extension of the protest.

Speaking to reporters, Dipke claimed that repeated attempts to contact officials had been unsuccessful. According to him, protesters had sought clarity on permissions and arrangements related to continuing their agitation, but alleged that authorities were not engaging with them.

“They are not taking our calls,” Dipke said, expressing frustration over what he described as a lack of communication from the administration.

The protest, which has drawn attention in recent days through slogans and demonstrations involving participants banging thalis and chammach, is centered on demands for accountability from a local pradhan. Protesters have accused the elected representative of failing to address community concerns and have called for immediate action.

Dipke maintained that the agitation would continue until the pradhan resigns. “We won't leave until the pradhan resigns,” he said, underlining the protesters’ determination to sustain the movement despite uncertainty over permissions and logistical arrangements.

The demonstration at Jantar Mantar has become one of the latest examples of grassroots activism gaining visibility both on the ground and online. Videos from the site have circulated widely on social media, bringing national attention to the protesters’ demands and methods of demonstration.

Authorities have so far maintained security at the venue, though there has been no immediate official response to Dipke’s allegations regarding communication with police officials. It remains unclear whether the organizers will receive permission to extend the protest beyond its initially approved duration.

Jantar Mantar has long served as a focal point for public demonstrations in the national capital, hosting movements related to governance, social issues, civic grievances and political demands. Protesters often choose the venue because of its symbolic importance as a designated space for public expression.

Political observers note that disputes over permissions, protest durations and administrative coordination are not uncommon during extended demonstrations. Organizers frequently seek extensions when their demands remain unresolved, while authorities must balance public order concerns with the right to peaceful protest.

Supporters of the agitation argue that the movement reflects genuine local grievances and should be allowed to continue until authorities address the concerns raised. Critics, meanwhile, contend that prolonged protests can create administrative and logistical challenges.

For now, protesters appear determined to maintain their presence at Jantar Mantar. With Dipke reiterating that the agitation will continue until the pradhan resigns, attention is likely to remain focused on whether authorities engage with the demonstrators and how the standoff develops in the coming days.
