Prominent Names Cleared After Verification

Several high-profile voters in Delhi who received SIR notices over discrepancies in their electoral records have now cleared the verification process, according to election officials. The list includes LK Advani, Jagdeep Dhankhar, S Jaishankar, Rekha Gupta and Arvind Kejriwal.

Officials said election teams, including booth-level officers, visited the concerned voters and checked their details against supporting documents prescribed by the Election Commission.

Why Were the Notices Issued?

Most of the prominent voters were reportedly flagged as "unmapped with last SIR" in electoral records from the previous revision conducted in Delhi in 2002.

Many of the affected prominent voters are registered in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Their names did not appear in the draft electoral roll published on August 31, prompting officials to issue notices as part of the verification and claims-and-objections process.

Names Reserved for Final Electoral Roll

Following field verification, the details of the prominent voters were validated and their names were reserved for inclusion in Delhi's final electoral roll.

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.

Over 33 Lakh Voters Received Notices

The SIR exercise has affected a much larger group of voters than just prominent personalities. Officials said more than 97 lakh electors were included in Delhi's draft electoral roll, while around 33.13 lakh voters were identified for notices because of discrepancies in their enumeration forms.

A significant number of these cases involve voters whose details could not be matched with the electoral roll prepared during the 2002 SIR.

Notice Does Not Mean Automatic Deletion

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office has clarified that receiving an SIR notice does not automatically mean that a voter's name will be deleted.

Officials have said voters must be given an opportunity to submit the required information and documents. Any deletion must follow due process, including an appropriate speaking and appealable order.

Other Prominent Voters Also Received Notices

Apart from Advani, Dhankhar, Jaishankar, Rekha Gupta and Kejriwal, reports said several other prominent personalities received notices, including former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, former NITI Aayog Vice-Chairperson Arvind Panagariya and former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

What Happens Next?

Election officials will continue processing SIR-related cases and claims and objections before the final electoral roll is published. The current schedule provides for disposal of notices by October 29, followed by publication of the final roll on November 4.
