Bhujbal Comments on Merger Speculation
Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal was asked about reports suggesting that the rival NCP factions could come together.
Responding to the speculation, Bhujbal said, “It will happen when it has to happen,” without giving a definite timeline or confirming that a merger had been finalised.
His comments are being seen as an indication that discussions over a possible rapprochement remain politically significant.
Two NCP Factions
The NCP split in 2023, with Ajit Pawar joining the Maharashtra government along with a group of MLAs, while Sharad Pawar continued to lead the rival faction.
The political dispute subsequently involved questions over the party's name, symbol and organisational control.
Merger Buzz
Speculation about a possible reunion between the two camps has periodically surfaced, particularly amid changing political equations in Maharashtra.
Bhujbal's latest remark neither confirmed nor ruled out such a development.
Political Significance
A merger could have major implications for Maharashtra politics, potentially reshaping alliances, organisational structures and electoral calculations.
However, no formal announcement confirming a merger has been made in the statement attributed to Bhujbal.
Looking Ahead
The possibility of the two NCP factions coming together is likely to remain a subject of political discussion. Any concrete development would depend on formal negotiations and decisions by the respective party leaderships.
