New Delhi: Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan has received a death threat, prompting his office to seek an urgent investigation by the Ministry of Home Affairs and a review of his security arrangements.
According to reports, Paswan, who is under Z-category security, received an unsigned communication containing two mobile numbers and a direct threat to his life.
Threat communication received
Paswan's office said the threatening communication was received at the ministry on Tuesday.
According to a letter sent by his Additional Private Secretary Alok Kumar Singh to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the message contained a direct threat claiming that the Union Minister would be killed by “hardcore terrorists”.
The minister's office described the communication as a matter of grave concern and said its direct nature had raised serious apprehensions regarding Paswan's safety and security.
Home Ministry asked to conduct probe
Following the threat, Chirag Paswan's office formally requested the Home Ministry to conduct a thorough investigation.
The request seeks an examination of the origin, authenticity and circumstances surrounding the threatening communication.
Authorities are expected to assess the credibility of the threat and determine its source as part of the investigation.
Request for enhanced security
Paswan's office has also requested that his existing security arrangements be reviewed and suitably strengthened if required.
The request cited the threat perception surrounding the minister as well as his scheduled public engagements.
Paswan is currently a Z-category protectee, and any decision regarding additional security measures will depend on the assessment made by the concerned security agencies.
Copies sent to senior authorities
According to reports, copies of the communication regarding the threat were also sent to the office of the Union Home Minister and the Delhi Police Commissioner.
The involvement of multiple authorities reflects the seriousness with which the reported threat is being treated.
Chirag Paswan's political role
Chirag Paswan serves as the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and is the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
He remains a prominent political figure, particularly in Bihar, where his party has an important presence in state politics.
The reported threat comes at a time when Paswan continues to participate in political and public engagements across different parts of the country.
