₹1 crore compensation for NEET aspirants, Wangchuk's release: The 3 demands made by CJP during meeting with JP Nadda

A delegation from the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) on Monday met BJP national president and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, presenting a three-point charter of demands amid the ongoing political row surrounding climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and the group's nationwide protests.

The meeting came after Nadda shared a photograph with CJP leaders on social media, saying that "talks are on since morning," fuelling speculation over possible negotiations between the Centre and the protest organisers.

Three key demands placed before Nadda

According to the CJP delegation, the demands submitted during the meeting include:

• ₹1 crore compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide or lost their lives amid stress linked to the examination process.

• Immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk, who was shifted from Jantar Mantar to a Delhi hospital after nearly three weeks of an indefinite hunger strike.

• Constructive dialogue with the government on the broader issues raised by the movement, with the delegation urging the Centre to engage with protesters through democratic consultation.

The organisation said the demands were aimed at addressing both humanitarian concerns and the larger issues that have fuelled the ongoing agitation.

Meeting follows days of protests

The discussions took place after several days of demonstrations in the national capital, including the 'Chalo Sansad' march, which witnessed heavy security deployment, detentions and political controversy.

The protests intensified after Wangchuk was moved to VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, with his supporters alleging that he was taken away without consent. Delhi Police, however, have maintained that the transfer was carried out solely on medical advice to protect the activist's health.

Nadda yet to disclose details

While J.P. Nadda confirmed that discussions had been underway, he did not publicly reveal the outcome of the meeting or whether the Centre had agreed to any of the demands raised by the delegation.

The BJP has also not issued an official statement outlining the government's position following the talks.

Political focus shifts to negotiations

The meeting is being viewed as a significant development amid the continuing political confrontation over Wangchuk's protest and the issues raised by CJP.

Whether the Centre accepts any of the delegation's demands remains to be seen, but the dialogue has raised expectations that negotiations could continue in the coming days as both sides seek a resolution to the standoff.
