Delhi Police Rejects Claims CJP Leader Abhijeet Dipke Was Not Informed of Grandmother’s Death

Delhi Police Responds to Claims About Abhijeet Dipke

Delhi Police on October 10 rejected social media claims that Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was not informed about his grandmother’s death while in police detention in the national capital.

The police department said the information had been conveyed to Dipke promptly and with sensitivity. It also stated that he had been informed about the scheduled funeral and offered assistance to travel to his hometown in Maharashtra to attend the last rites.

The clarification came amid growing controversy surrounding the detention of CJP leaders ahead of the party’s proposed protest in Delhi.

Police Says Travel Assistance Was Offered

In a statement shared on its official social media account, Delhi Police said claims circulating online about Dipke not being informed of the death were incorrect.

According to the department, Dipke was told about his grandmother’s demise and the timing of the funeral. Police also said it had offered all possible assistance on humanitarian grounds to facilitate his travel to Maharashtra.

The statement was intended to address questions about whether Dipke had been kept informed of the family tragedy while in detention.

CJP Questions Police Handling of the Situation

The Cockroach Janta Party criticised Delhi Police over the circumstances surrounding Dipke’s detention and his family’s difficulty in contacting him.

The party alleged that neither Dipke’s family members nor its lawyers had been informed about his whereabouts. It expressed concern about Dipke and two other detained leaders, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, and called for Dipke’s immediate release.

The CJP also accused the police of politicising a personal tragedy. These allegations differ from the police account that Dipke had been informed and offered travel assistance.

Abhijeet Dipke’s Grandmother Dies in Maharashtra

Dipke’s paternal grandmother, Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke, aged 85, died at her home in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district on Saturday, October 10, following a prolonged illness, according to family sources cited in media reports.

She had reportedly been unwell for around a month and had previously been hospitalised in Hingoli. Her last rites were scheduled for 10 am on Sunday, October 11.

Family members said they had been unable to contact Dipke while he was detained in Delhi. His parents had been informed of the death and were travelling to the village.

CJP Leaders Detained Ahead of Delhi Protest

Dipke, CJP co-convenor Saurav Das and party leader Ashutosh Ranka were detained by Delhi Police after arriving in the capital from Mumbai on Saturday.

The party had planned a demonstration known as “Jantar Mantar 2.0”, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities associated with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed protest, citing public safety, traffic management and law-and-order concerns. Security arrangements were tightened across the capital ahead of the planned demonstration.

Security Measures and Restrictions Across Delhi

The proposed protest led to heightened security arrangements in several parts of the national capital. Demonstrators were dispersed from locations including Connaught Place, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Dilli Haat, Gole Market and INA Market as authorities attempted to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also extended entry and exit restrictions at 45 metro stations until 10 pm on October 10, citing security arrangements connected with the protest.

The developments added to the controversy surrounding the detention of CJP leaders and the handling of the planned demonstration.

Dispute Over Communication With Family

The central issue in the dispute is the communication between the authorities, Dipke and his family following his grandmother’s death.

Delhi Police maintains that it promptly informed Dipke and offered assistance for travel to attend the funeral. The CJP, meanwhile, has raised concerns about the family’s inability to contact him and demanded that he be released so that he could return home.

The available reports present conflicting accounts of the wider communication arrangements. The police statement confirms its position that Dipke was informed, while the party’s objections highlight concerns about access to the detained leaders.

What Happens Next?

The immediate question is whether Dipke will be able to travel to Maharashtra for his grandmother’s last rites while the detention continues.

The police have said that assistance was offered to facilitate his journey. The CJP has demanded his immediate release and raised concerns about access to its detained leaders.

Further developments are likely to depend on decisions concerning the leaders’ detention and any subsequent communication between the authorities, the party and the families.

Conclusion

Delhi Police has rejected allegations that CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was not informed of his grandmother’s death, saying he was promptly notified and offered assistance to attend the funeral in Maharashtra.

The CJP has continued to question the handling of his detention, alleging that his family and lawyers were unable to contact him and demanding his release. The dispute has unfolded alongside heightened security measures and controversy over the party’s proposed protest in the national capital.
