Bengaluru: Karnataka is heading towards a major political transition with Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar poised to take over as the state's next chief minister after the resignation of veteran leader Siddaramaiah.

The Congress Legislature Party meeting scheduled in Bengaluru is expected to formally endorse Shivakumar's elevation, ending months of speculation over a leadership-sharing arrangement within the ruling party.

But while the chief ministerial question appears close to being settled, a new political battle has already begun behind closed doors.
