DMK Chief MK Stalin's Mother Dayalu Ammal Hospitalised in Chennai After Health Setback

Dayalu Ammal, the wife of late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and mother of DMK president M.K. Stalin, was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday after her health suddenly worsened.

According to hospital sources, the 90-plus-year-old leader's spouse has been battling age-related health issues for several years and had been under continuous medical supervision at her Gopalapuram residence. Following a deterioration in her condition, she was shifted to the hospital, where she received immediate medical attention. Doctors have said her condition is currently stable and she remains under the close observation of a specialised medical team.

Stalin Rushes to Hospital

Soon after learning of his mother's hospitalisation, DMK president M.K. Stalin reached the hospital along with other members of the Karunanidhi family.

Sources said Stalin held discussions with the team of senior doctors treating Dayalu Ammal to assess her medical condition and the course of treatment being administered. Several family members, including Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, also visited the hospital to inquire about her health.

Long Battle With Age-Related Ailments

Dayalu Ammal has largely remained away from public life in recent years owing to age-related illnesses. She has been under regular medical care and has previously undergone treatment for various health conditions.

During proceedings in an earlier money laundering case linked to Kalaignar TV, her doctors had informed the court that she had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other age-related ailments, making it difficult for her to participate in legal proceedings.

A Key Member of the Karunanidhi Family

Dayalu Ammal is the widow of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK stalwart M. Karunanidhi, who died in 2018. She is the mother of M.K. Stalin, who succeeded Karunanidhi as the party president, and several other members of the influential Karunanidhi family.

Her hospitalisation has prompted concern among DMK leaders and party workers, many of whom have been closely monitoring updates on her health.

Awaiting Further Medical Bulletin

As of Tuesday afternoon, neither the hospital nor the family had issued a detailed medical bulletin beyond confirming that Dayalu Ammal is receiving treatment and remains under observation.

More information regarding her condition is expected once doctors complete further assessments.
