Girl Groped, Boy Hit as Mob Harasses Teens in Bihar’s Jamui, Shocking Video Surfaces

Jamui: A disturbing incident involving two minor students in Bihar’s Jamui district has triggered concern after videos showing a group of men allegedly surrounding and harassing the teenagers surfaced on social media.

The victims — a Class 10 girl and boy — were reportedly returning from coaching classes on a scooter on the evening of September 19 when they were stopped by a group of youths. Police have since registered an FIR and begun action against those allegedly involved.

What happened in Jamui?

According to police and media reports, the teenagers had gone to the Marwa Pahad area after attending coaching classes and were returning home when they were allegedly intercepted by a group of men.

Videos circulating online appear to show several people surrounding the students and questioning them. The boy is seen trying to explain the situation while the girl repeatedly asks the group to let them leave.

In one clip, the boy is allegedly slapped during the confrontation. Another video shows members of the group following the teenagers and pulling the boy by his shirt. The footage also appears to show a man grabbing and lifting the girl.

The precise circumstances surrounding the videos and the individual roles of everyone visible in them are being examined by police.

Police register FIR, three arrested

Jamui police took cognisance of the videos after they surfaced online and contacted the victims. According to the latest Indian Express report, three people have been arrested, while police are searching for others identified from the footage.

Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal said the incident occurred between approximately 6 pm and 7 pm on September 19. Police recorded the victims' statements and began identifying those allegedly involved.

An FIR has been registered under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the investigation will determine the role of each person involved.

Video triggers police action

The case came to wider attention after videos of the confrontation spread across social media. The footage shows the teenagers apparently pleading with the group to allow them to leave.

Police initially learnt about the incident through the circulating videos and subsequently traced the victims. Reports said the families had not immediately approached police after the incident, with authorities later recording the victims' statements.

The investigation is also examining the authenticity, location and circumstances of the recordings.

Political reactions

The incident has also drawn political reactions. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi condemned the reported harassment and called for those responsible to be identified and prosecuted under child-protection laws. His comments were made in a post on X after the videos surfaced.

His remarks are political commentary on the incident; the criminal allegations themselves remain subject to the ongoing police investigation.

Investigation continues

Police are continuing to identify the people seen in the videos and determine their individual roles. Since the victims are minors, their identities have not been disclosed.

The arrests and registration of the FIR mark the beginning of the legal process. Any criminal liability will ultimately depend on the evidence collected during the investigation and subsequent proceedings.
