IndiGo introduces ‘Lite’ fare for economy flyers travelling with only cabin bag
India's largest airline, IndiGo, has launched a new entry-level 'IndiGo Lite' fare for Economy Class passengers travelling with only cabin baggage. The lower-priced fare allows travellers to pay only for the services they use, with bookings opening from July 1 for travel starting July 15.

New Delhi: Budget carrier IndiGo on Wednesday introduced 'IndiGo Lite', a new entry-level Economy Class fare designed for passengers travelling with only cabin baggage, as airlines increasingly unbundle services to offer lower ticket prices and greater flexibility.
The new fare is aimed at travellers who do not require checked baggage and prefer paying only for the services they need. Under the Lite fare, passengers will receive a lower base fare, an auto-assigned seat at no additional cost, and a 7 kg cabin baggage allowance.
When can passengers book?
IndiGo said the Lite fare is available for bookings from July 1 through its website, mobile application and contact centre, with travel under the new category commencing from July 15, 2026. The fare applies to non-stop domestic and international flights, including one-way, round-trip and multi-city itineraries, for both adults and children.
What does the Lite fare include?
Passengers booking the IndiGo Lite fare will receive:
A lower base fare
One cabin bag of up to 7 kg
An auto-assigned seat at no extra cost
Eligibility to earn and redeem IndiGo BluChip loyalty points
Customers who require additional services can purchase them separately, including:
Checked baggage
Preferred seat selection
In-flight meals
Priority services such as Fast Forward
These add-ons can be purchased through IndiGo's website or at the airport up to one hour before departure.
Why has IndiGo launched the new fare?
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, said the airline continues to adapt its offerings to meet the evolving needs of different categories of travellers.
He said the Lite fare has been designed for passengers who travel light and want to pay only for the services they actually use, while making air travel more accessible and affordable.
The launch comes weeks after rival Air India introduced a basic Economy fare without complimentary meals for price-conscious travellers, highlighting a growing trend among Indian airlines to offer more customised pricing by separating ancillary services from the base ticket fare.
Expanded fare portfolio
With the addition of IndiGo Lite, the airline's "6E Ways to Fly" portfolio now includes:
Saver
Flexi Plus
IndiGo UpFront
IndiGoStretch
Stretch+
Lite
The airline said the expanded range gives passengers more flexibility to choose a fare based on their travel needs and budget.
The introduction of IndiGo Lite reflects the aviation industry's broader shift toward unbundled fare structures, allowing passengers to customise their travel experience while potentially lowering the overall cost of flying for those travelling light.
