Karnataka Completes Hearings Under SIR
Karnataka has completed hearings for all 43,82,824 notices issued during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on October 23.
The hearings covered voters whose records were categorised under “No Mapping” and “Anomalies” during the revision exercise. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27, 2026, in accordance with the Election Commission of India's schedule.
More Than 25.87 Lakh Applications Received
According to the CEO's office, Karnataka received 25,87,461 applications across different categories between June 16 and October 22.
The applications included:
Form 6: 10,42,863 applications for inclusion of names in the electoral roll.
Form 6A: 4,840 applications relating to enrolment of eligible Indian citizens living abroad.
Form 7: 2,28,917 applications concerning objections to proposed inclusion or requests for deletion of names.
Form 8: 13,10,841 applications for corrections and other changes to electoral entries.
These figures cover different types of requests and should not be interpreted as the number of voters who will ultimately be added to or removed from the final list. Each application is subject to the applicable electoral registration process.
What Are SIR Notices?
The notices were issued to voters whose records were flagged under the “No Mapping” and “Anomalies” categories during the electoral roll revision.
The notice and hearing process gives election officials an opportunity to examine voter records and the relevant documents before taking decisions under the applicable rules. The completion of hearings does not, by itself, mean that every voter who received a notice will be removed from the electoral roll.
Form 7 Applications Under Scrutiny
The number of Form 7 applications has drawn attention during Karnataka's SIR exercise. These forms can be used to object to a proposed inclusion or request deletion of an existing entry from the electoral roll.
The Election Commission received 2,28,917 Form 7 applications by October 22. The rise in applications has prompted scrutiny amid concerns about whether some objections could be misused to seek the removal of eligible voters.
However, an application seeking deletion does not automatically result in a name being removed. Election officials are required to examine applications and follow the prescribed procedure before making a decision. Allegations of misuse must be investigated and established through the appropriate process.
All Form 7 Applications Filed by September 23 Cleared
The CEO's office said all Form 7 applications received up to September 23—the deadline for filing claims and objections—had been taken up on priority and disposed of after examination.
The office also reiterated that voter enrolment and corrections to electoral records are continuing processes. Eligible citizens can submit the relevant forms to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer, including through the Election Commission's designated online channels or at the appropriate election office.
Final Voter List to Be Published on October 27
With the hearings and notice-disposal process completed, Karnataka is preparing to publish its final electoral roll on October 27, 2026.
The final list will show the outcome of the revision exercise, including the electoral entries retained, added, corrected or removed after the required scrutiny. The number of notices issued and applications received alone does not establish how many names will ultimately be deleted.
Voters should check the final roll when it becomes available and contact the relevant election authorities if their names or details appear to be missing or incorrect.
