Kejriwal Seeks Meeting with PM
Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a meeting to discuss concerns related to the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol.
In his letter, he called for a review of the current fuel policy from the perspective of consumers and vehicle owners.
Demand for Pure Petrol Option
Kejriwal urged the Centre to make pure petrol available at fuel stations in addition to E20 fuel.
According to him, motorists should have the freedom to choose the type of fuel that best suits their vehicles.
Concerns Raised
The AAP leader highlighted issues including:
Compatibility of older vehicles with E20 fuel.
Consumer choice at fuel stations.
Potential maintenance costs for vehicle owners.
Need for greater public awareness about ethanol-blended fuels.
These concerns reflect Kejriwal's position and are part of an ongoing public policy debate.
Government's E20 Programme
The Central Government has been promoting E20 petrol—containing up to 20% ethanol—as part of its broader strategy to:
Reduce dependence on imported crude oil.
Promote cleaner fuels.
Support domestic ethanol production.
Lower carbon emissions.
The government has stated that the initiative aligns with India's energy security and environmental goals.
Policy Debate Continues
The issue has generated discussion among policymakers, automobile manufacturers, fuel retailers, and consumers regarding vehicle compatibility and fuel availability.
Different stakeholders have expressed varying views on the pace and implementation of the transition.
Looking Ahead
It remains to be seen whether the Prime Minister's Office will respond to Kejriwal's request for a meeting or whether the government will consider providing multiple fuel options at retail outlets.
The rollout of E20 petrol is expected to remain an important policy issue as India advances its clean energy objectives.
