Rahul Gandhi's interaction with protesting students in Jharkhand, saying the Leader of Opposition met them to hear their grievances and understand their concerns firsthand.
Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi said Rahul Gandhi's visit reflected the Congress party's commitment to standing with students and young people raising issues related to recruitment examinations and alleged police action.
She also called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make a statement in Parliament regarding the incidents in Jharkhand, arguing that the government should respond to the concerns being raised by the Opposition.
"The Home Minister should come to the House and explain the government's position," Priyanka Gandhi said, adding that Parliament is the appropriate forum to discuss issues affecting students and democratic rights.
Her remarks came amid continued disruptions during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, with Opposition parties demanding a detailed discussion on the police action against student protesters in Jharkhand. The government has maintained that it is willing to discuss the matter within the framework of parliamentary rules while accusing the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting proceedings.
The student protests in Jharkhand began over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and later expanded to include concerns over police action during demonstrations. The issue has since become a major point of political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the Opposition.
Congress leaders have repeatedly accused the government of failing to address the students' concerns, while the BJP has alleged that the Opposition is attempting to politicise the issue for electoral gains.
With Parliament continuing to witness repeated adjournments, the demand for a statement by the Home Minister is expected to remain a key issue as the Monsoon Session progresses.
