Punjab Elections: BJP Holds Seat-Sharing Talks With Badal's Party Despite Public Posturing

Chandigarh: Behind the public political posturing, the BJP is reportedly engaged in seat-sharing discussions with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the Punjab elections, signalling the possibility of renewed electoral coordination between the two parties.

The talks assume significance in Punjab's highly competitive political landscape, where the BJP and SAD have a long history of electoral cooperation.

For years, the two parties were allies, with the SAD serving as the BJP's principal partner in Punjab. Their alliance came to an end in 2020 after the Akali Dal withdrew from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance amid disagreements over the Centre's farm laws.
