Rahul Gandhi Questions Amit Shah's Competence, Targets PM Modi Over Absence from Parliament

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a fresh attack on the Centre, questioning Union Home Minister Amit Shah's competence in handling issues related to recent student protests while also criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his absence from Parliament.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government was avoiding accountability on issues raised by the Opposition. He questioned Amit Shah's handling of the recent police action against student protesters and argued that the Home Minister should provide a comprehensive explanation in Parliament.

The Congress leader also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the Prime Minister had remained absent from the House despite repeated demands by the Opposition for discussions on matters of public importance. Rahul Gandhi said Parliament is the appropriate forum for addressing such issues and called on the government to engage in meaningful debate.

The remarks come amid a prolonged deadlock in Parliament, with Opposition parties demanding discussions on student protests and the alleged use of force by police. While the government has indicated its willingness to facilitate a statement by Amit Shah, the Opposition has insisted on a detailed debate followed by the Home Minister's response.

The BJP has rejected the Congress' allegations, accusing the Opposition of disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of participating in legislative business. Government leaders have maintained that Parliament should be allowed to function smoothly and that discussions can take place within the established rules and procedures.

The exchange has further intensified the political confrontation between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition during the ongoing Monsoon Session, which has witnessed repeated adjournments over contentious political issues.

With both sides remaining firm on their positions, the standoff is expected to continue unless a consensus is reached on the format of the discussion and the government's response.
