‘Paper Sold for ₹2.25 Lakh’: After NEET, Rahul Gandhi Alleges UGC-NET Sociology Paper Leak, Claims ‘90 Questions Matched’
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the UGC-NET Sociology examination had been compromised by a paper leak, claiming that the question paper was allegedly sold for ₹2.25 lakh before the exam and that 90 questions matched the actual paper.
The allegation comes amid continuing political debate over the security of competitive examinations, following the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG examination.
Rahul Gandhi Alleges Major Examination Irregularity
Addressing the issue through social media and public statements, Rahul Gandhi claimed that candidates had access to the examination paper before the test was conducted.
According to him, the leaked paper was allegedly being sold for ₹2.25 lakh, and a comparison showed that 90 questions were identical to those that appeared in the official examination.
The Congress MP questioned the credibility of India's examination system and urged authorities to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the allegations.
Links the Issue to Earlier NEET Controversy
Rahul Gandhi drew parallels with the NEET examination controversy, arguing that repeated allegations of paper leaks have undermined the confidence of students preparing for competitive examinations.
He said that lakhs of students spend years preparing for national-level entrance and eligibility tests, and any compromise in examination integrity amounts to a betrayal of their hard work.
The Congress leader reiterated his demand for stronger safeguards to prevent future leaks and ensure fair examinations.
No Official Confirmation of Leak
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the National Testing Agency (NTA) or the University Grants Commission (UGC) verifying Rahul Gandhi's claims.
Authorities have not announced any evidence confirming that the Sociology paper was leaked or that the alleged matching questions establish malpractice.
Officials are expected to examine the allegations before deciding whether any formal inquiry or investigation is required.
Political Reactions Intensify
The latest allegation has triggered a fresh political confrontation between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
Congress leaders have demanded accountability from the agencies responsible for conducting national examinations, while BJP leaders have accused the opposition of making allegations before the completion of official verification.
The controversy has also sparked debate on social media, with students and education activists calling for transparency and prompt clarification from the authorities.
Students Await Official Response
The allegations have raised concerns among UGC-NET aspirants, many of whom have urged the NTA to issue an official statement to address speculation and reassure candidates about the examination process.
For now, the claims remain allegations made by Rahul Gandhi, and the authorities have not confirmed any paper leak. Any further action will likely depend on the findings of an official inquiry.
