Ramakrishna Hegde at 100: The Karnataka CM Who Treated Power as a Passing Phase

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, remembered as one of the most influential leaders of the state's political history, is being recalled on his birth centenary for a political career marked by administrative innovation, decentralisation and an unconventional approach to power.

Hegde, born on August 29, 1926, emerged as a prominent figure in Karnataka politics at a time when the state was witnessing major political changes. He served as Chief Minister from 1983 to 1985 and again from 1985 to 1988, becoming one of the most recognisable leaders of the Janata movement in southern India.
