Semicon 2.0, ECMS and MPMS Can Build End-to-End Electronics Value Chain: ELCINA
The Electronics Industries Association (ELCINA) has said that the combined impact of Semicon 2.0, the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) and the Modified Programme for Manufacturing Semiconductors (MPMS) could help India build a complete, end-to-end electronics value chain. The industry body said coordinated policy support across semiconductors, components and manufacturing could strengthen domestic capabilities and reduce import dependence.

New Delhi: Industry body ELCINA has highlighted the potential of three major government initiatives — Semicon 2.0, the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) and the Modified Programme for Manufacturing Semiconductors (MPMS) — to help India establish an end-to-end electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The industry association said coordinated implementation of the schemes could strengthen India's capabilities across the electronics value chain, from semiconductor manufacturing and components to finished electronic products.
Three Schemes Could Transform Electronics Manufacturing
India has been increasing policy support for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing as it seeks to become a major global production hub.
According to ELCINA, the simultaneous development of semiconductor fabrication, component manufacturing and downstream electronics production is essential for creating a resilient domestic ecosystem.
The association said Semicon 2.0, ECMS and MPMS can complement each other by addressing different parts of the electronics value chain.
Focus on Components and Semiconductors
The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) is aimed at encouraging investment in domestic production of key electronic components.
A stronger component ecosystem could help manufacturers source more inputs domestically, reduce supply-chain vulnerabilities and improve the competitiveness of Indian electronics companies.
At the same time, semiconductor-focused initiatives are intended to build domestic capabilities in chip fabrication, packaging, testing and related technologies.
ELCINA believes that linking these efforts could create stronger synergies between component suppliers, semiconductor companies and electronics manufacturers.
Semicon 2.0 and India's Semiconductor Ambitions
The next phase of India's semiconductor policy is expected to focus on expanding the country's capabilities beyond individual projects and developing a broader semiconductor ecosystem.
The industry has increasingly called for greater investment in advanced technologies, research and development, skilled manpower and supporting infrastructure.

ELCINA has emphasised that the success of the initiatives will depend not only on individual schemes but also on their coordination.
