Srinagar MP Says He Will Respond Soon to Farooq Abdullah's Resignation Demand

Srinagar: Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi has said he will respond soon to Farooq Abdullah's demand that he resign from Parliament, amid growing political differences within the National Conference.

The statement comes after Abdullah, who heads the National Conference, called for the Srinagar MP to step down, intensifying an internal dispute that has drawn attention within Jammu and Kashmir's political circles.

Ruhullah has indicated that he will make his position clear shortly, but did not immediately announce whether he would accept the demand or challenge it.

The development is significant because Ruhullah represents Srinagar in the Lok Sabha and has emerged as a prominent political voice from the Kashmir Valley. His position within the National Conference has also made the dispute particularly noteworthy.

The disagreement comes against the backdrop of wider political debates in Jammu and Kashmir over governance, representation and the future political direction of the Union Territory.

The National Conference remains one of the major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir and currently leads the elected government in the Union Territory. Farooq Abdullah continues to be an influential figure within the party, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah heads the administration.

The demand for Ruhullah's resignation has therefore raised questions about internal party dynamics and the relationship between the party leadership and its elected representatives.

Ruhullah has previously taken independent positions on several political issues and has been vocal on matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir. His response to Abdullah's demand is consequently being closely watched by party workers and political observers.

The dispute could also have implications for the National Conference's broader political strategy, particularly at a time when regional parties are seeking to consolidate their support base in the Union Territory.

For now, Ruhullah's statement that he will respond soon leaves the immediate outcome uncertain. His eventual decision is likely to determine whether the disagreement remains an internal political dispute or develops into a more significant confrontation within the party.

Political observers are expected to closely monitor further statements from both sides as the National Conference leadership seeks to manage the controversy.
