YSRCP Eyes Vijay’s Poll Strategist Kapil Sahu Ahead of 2029 Andhra Pradesh Battle

Amaravati: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is reportedly looking to strengthen its electoral strategy ahead of the 2029 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, with political strategist Kapil Sahu emerging as a possible addition to the party's campaign team.

Sahu's name has gained attention after reports suggested that he was involved in the election campaign of Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is now reportedly considering his services as the party prepares for its next major electoral battle.

However, there has been no official confirmation from YSRCP or Jagan regarding Sahu's appointment. The reports currently remain at the level of political speculation and discussions within party circles.

Why Kapil Sahu is attracting YSRCP's attention

Kapil Sahu has reportedly worked on political campaigns involving digital outreach, social media communication and voter engagement. His association with Vijay's political campaign has brought him into focus in southern Indian politics.

For YSRCP, the attraction is understood to be linked to the party's need to rebuild its electoral machinery following its setback in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. The party is now looking at ways to reconnect with voters, strengthen its grassroots organisation and develop a more effective communication strategy ahead of 2029.

Reports suggest that senior YSRCP leaders have held preliminary discussions about bringing Sahu into the party's campaign structure.

From Prashant Kishor to a possible new strategy

YS Jagan's decision to explore new campaign expertise also comes after the party's earlier association with Prashant Kishor and I-PAC.

I-PAC played a significant role in YSRCP's successful 2019 campaign, when Jagan led the party to a decisive victory in Andhra Pradesh. The political landscape changed dramatically in 2024, however, when the YSRCP suffered a major electoral defeat.

The party has since been looking for ways to overhaul its political and communication strategy. A new strategist could potentially focus on areas such as data-driven campaigning, social media outreach, constituency-level voter analysis and youth engagement.

2029 battle already taking shape

Although the 2029 Assembly elections are still years away, political parties in Andhra Pradesh have already begun positioning themselves for the next contest.

The ruling TDP-led NDA alliance remains the principal political challenge for YSRCP. Jagan is simultaneously attempting to rebuild the party organisation and reconnect with voters after the 2024 defeat.

Reports have also indicated that Jagan is planning an extensive grassroots political programme, including a proposed padayatra, as part of efforts to revive the party's organisation and public outreach.

Against this backdrop, bringing in an experienced campaign strategist could become part of a broader effort to give YSRCP's 2029 campaign a fresh direction.

For now, the reported move to bring Kapil Sahu into the YSRCP fold remains unconfirmed. There is no official announcement on whether he will eventually be appointed as the party's election strategist or work with Jagan in another capacity.

If the reported discussions materialise, however, Sahu's potential move from Vijay's political campaign in Tamil Nadu to Jagan's YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh would be a notable development in southern India's increasingly professionalised electoral campaigns.
