The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has alleged that several of its activists and party workers were detained by police in Rajasthan ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The allegations emerged on Friday, October 9, a day before the scheduled demonstration in the national capital.
The party claimed that its workers faced police action in different locations, including Alwar and Sri Ganganagar. However, the police maintained that the activists had only been counselled.
CJP Alleges House Arrest of Deepak Baliyan
In Alwar, CJP national spokesperson Deepak Baliyan was allegedly placed under house arrest on Friday after being detained by local police overnight on Thursday, according to a post shared by the party on X.
The party claimed that police personnel returned to Baliyan's residence after detaining him the previous night.
In its social media post, the CJP alleged that more than 40 police personnel in civilian clothes were present at his home.
The post stated that Baliyan had been detained from his residence at night and that Alwar Police had once again arrived at the house on Friday.
Family Expresses Concern
The CJP's post also quoted Baliyan expressing concern about the safety of his family.
According to the statement shared by the party, Baliyan said his family was frightened and worried about its security. He also held Alwar Police responsible for any harm that might come to a member of his family.
The claims were made by the party through its social media account as the dispute over the alleged detention unfolded ahead of the planned Delhi protest.
Police Say Activists Were Only Counselled
The police presented a different account of the action against the CJP workers. According to the report, police said the activists had only been counselled.
The difference between the party's allegations and the police response has become a key aspect of the incident. While the CJP described the action as detention and alleged house arrest, the police maintained that the workers were counselled.
Incident Comes Ahead of Jantar Mantar Protest
The allegations surfaced a day before the CJP's planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The party claimed that several activists and workers had faced police action in Rajasthan ahead of the demonstration. In Alwar, the focus was on national spokesperson Deepak Baliyan, while activists in Sri Ganganagar also alleged that some party workers had been detained on Thursday.
The episode has brought attention to the circumstances surrounding the police action and the preparations for the planned protest.
As of the details available in the report, the CJP's allegations and the police's explanation remain different accounts of the incident. The party has claimed that its workers were detained, while police have said they were counselled.
