Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has imposed restrictions on the entry of outsiders into government school premises after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced plans to visit schools across the state as part of its campaign over education and school infrastructure.
The CJP has said it plans to inspect government schools and highlight problems related to infrastructure and basic facilities. The campaign, described as an effort to push for better schools, comes amid continuing concerns over the condition of government school buildings and facilities in Rajasthan.
Hours after the CJP announced its statewide school visit campaign, the Rajasthan Education Department issued directions restricting outsiders from entering school premises without prior permission from the principal or head of the institution.
The department has also placed restrictions on taking photographs and videos inside schools, citing concerns related to students' privacy. The new directions are aimed at regulating access to school campuses and ensuring that school activities are not disrupted.
The timing of the restrictions has drawn criticism from the CJP, which has questioned whether the move could prevent public scrutiny of government schools. The party has argued that visiting schools is intended to highlight shortcomings and push the authorities to improve basic facilities.
The development comes against the backdrop of concerns over the condition of Rajasthan's government schools. A state audit earlier this year found that more than half of the rooms in government schools were either dilapidated and unusable or required major repair work.
The issue of school infrastructure has remained politically sensitive in Rajasthan, particularly after incidents involving unsafe school buildings. The government has said it is taking steps to identify schools requiring repairs, reconstruction or demolition.
The latest dispute therefore places the CJP's campaign and the government's school-access rules on opposing sides of a wider debate over transparency, school safety and public scrutiny.
While the government maintains that restrictions are necessary to protect students and regulate access to educational institutions, the CJP has questioned the move and said it will continue to raise concerns about the condition of schools.
The controversy is likely to keep attention focused on the condition of Rajasthan's government schools and the measures being taken by the state to improve educational infrastructure.
