Datia Bypoll: Congress Candidate Confident of ‘Historic Victory’, Accuses BJP of ‘Creating Disturbances’

Datia, Madhya Pradesh: The Congress candidate in the Datia Assembly bypoll on Wednesday expressed confidence of registering a "historic victory," alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to create disturbances as campaigning and polling-related activities intensified.

Speaking to reporters, the Congress nominee claimed that public sentiment was strongly in favour of the party and said voters were looking for a change in the constituency.

"We are heading towards a historic victory. The people of Datia have made up their minds," the candidate said, while accusing the BJP of attempting to influence the electoral atmosphere through alleged disturbances.

The Congress leader urged the Election Commission to ensure free and fair polling, alleging that certain incidents were intended to intimidate party workers and supporters. However, no specific evidence was publicly presented to support the allegations.

The BJP dismissed the Congress's claims, describing them as politically motivated. Party leaders maintained that the bypoll was being conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and accused the opposition of making baseless allegations ahead of the results.

According to BJP leaders, the party remains confident of retaining the seat, citing its organisational strength and the government's development initiatives in the region. They said voters would judge candidates based on governance and local issues rather than political rhetoric.

The Datia Assembly by-election has attracted considerable political attention, with both the Congress and the BJP mounting intensive campaigns.
