Drishyam 3 Movie Review: The much-awaited third and concluding instalment of the Drishyam franchise brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, the seemingly ordinary family man whose extraordinary ability to construct elaborate explanations has driven the story from the beginning.
The latest film attempts to provide a conclusion to the story that began with the original Malayalam film and was later remade in Hindi, with Devgn taking over the central role in 2015.
For viewers who have followed the franchise through its earlier chapters, Drishyam 3 arrives with considerable expectations. The central appeal of the series has always been its combination of family drama, crime, suspense and carefully constructed twists.
Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar
Ajay Devgn once again plays Vijay Salgaonkar, maintaining the character's calm and controlled personality.
Vijay's biggest strength has always been his ability to remain composed when circumstances become difficult. Even when the pressure around him increases, his character attempts to stay several steps ahead of those investigating the case.
Devgn's performance continues to rely on restraint rather than exaggerated expressions. His portrayal keeps Vijay's unflappable personality at the centre of the story.
The character has evolved considerably since the first film, but the basic qualities that made him memorable remain intact.
Tabu brings back the intensity
Tabu's presence continues to add weight to the story. Her performance in the Drishyam franchise has been closely associated with the investigative side of the narrative, providing a strong counterpoint to Vijay's calculated approach.
The tension between the characters remains one of the important elements of the series.
With the third film positioned as the conclusion, the interactions between the central characters carry additional significance because audiences are now looking for answers and closure after the events of the earlier films.
Jaideep Ahlawat adds a new dimension
Jaideep Ahlawat is another important addition to the film's cast.
According to the review, Ahlawat's performance brings a distinctive energy to the film. His character has a jaunty quality that gives the investigative portions a different flavour.
His presence also helps maintain the tension that has been central to the Drishyam films.
The review particularly notes that Ahlawat's performance ensures that audiences do not necessarily miss the presence of Akshaye Khanna, who was an important part of the previous instalment.
A franchise built around one central mystery
The Drishyam story originally began in Malayalam in 2013, with Mohanlal playing the central character. The original film followed a cable-TV operator who becomes involved in a serious situation concerning his family and subsequently creates an elaborate cover-up.
The story was loosely inspired by key plot elements from Japanese author Keigo Higashino's thriller The Devotion of Suspect X.
The Malayalam film developed a strong following and was subsequently remade in several languages.
The Hindi adaptation arrived in 2015, with Ajay Devgn playing Vijay Salgaonkar. The film established the Hindi version of the character and created a strong audience base for the subsequent sequel.
The final chapter
With Drishyam 3, the filmmakers are attempting to bring the long-running story to a conclusion.
That makes the film different from a conventional sequel. Instead of simply extending an existing mystery, the third instalment carries the responsibility of providing closure to a story that has continued across multiple films.
The review describes the conclusion positively and highlights the performances of Ajay Devgn and Tabu as major strengths.
Devgn remains firmly in control as Vijay Salgaonkar, while Tabu brings the intensity expected from her character. Jaideep Ahlawat provides another strong presence, adding freshness to the investigative side of the narrative.
For followers of the franchise, the appeal of Drishyam 3 lies in seeing how the story of Vijay Salgaonkar finally reaches its concluding point.
The film therefore works as both another chapter in the franchise and an attempt to provide the ending that the long-running Drishyam story has been building towards.
