Mumbai: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has called for full transparency in player transfers between Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, saying the financial details of trades should be made public.

Gavaskar’s comments come amid growing attention around high-profile player transfers following the 2026 IPL season. He believes transparency is important to protect the credibility of the league and ensure that all franchises have clarity about the financial aspects of trades.

According to reports, only two player transfers have taken place through the IPL trade window after the 2026 season. Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals completed a major exchange involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav.

Gavaskar has argued that other franchises should be able to know the financial value attached to player transfers. Without such information, questions can arise over whether individual teams have complied with the salary-cap regulations.

The former India batter said that transparency in the transfer process would help avoid unnecessary speculation and finger-pointing among franchises.

The issue has gained further attention following reports surrounding potential high-profile moves in the IPL. The possibility of Hardik Pandya returning to Gujarat Titans has also added to the discussion around player transfers and the conditions attached to such deals.

Gavaskar believes that making the financial details of trades public would allow franchises and fans to better understand how transactions affect team budgets and salary caps.

The IPL has grown into one of the world's biggest T20 competitions, attracting some of the leading players and significant commercial investment. Gavaskar has stressed that maintaining clear and transparent processes is important for protecting the league's reputation as it continues to expand.

With player movements expected to remain an important part of the IPL off-season, the debate over transparency could put greater focus on how future trades are conducted and disclosed.
