Gold Rate Today: Prices See Marginal Movement

Gold prices remained relatively stable on Monday, September 21, 2026, with leading jewellery retailers recording only small changes in their daily rates.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers reduced their 22K gold jewellery price slightly, while Tanishq recorded a marginal increase compared with its previous quoted rate. The prices varied only modestly across the major cities covered in the latest update.

The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) also provides indicative rates for different gold purities. Its September 21 morning rates put 999-purity fine gold at Rs 15,306 per gram, while 22K gold was quoted at Rs 14,938 per gram.

22K Gold Rate at Major Jewellers Today

The latest 22K jewellery rates reported by major retailers were largely similar across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Trivandrum and Bengaluru.

These are the quoted gold rates for jewellery and do not represent the final amount a customer necessarily pays for a finished ornament. Making charges, GST and other applicable costs can increase the final jewellery bill.

Gold Rate in Delhi Today

In Delhi, Tanishq quoted 22K gold jewellery at Rs 14,315 per gram on September 21.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers quoted Rs 14,270 per gram.

Tanishq's rate was Rs 14,330 per gram on September 20, while the other three retailers had quoted Rs 14,285 per gram in their previous update.

Gold Rate in Mumbai Today

Mumbai showed the same quoted 22K jewellery rates among the major brands covered.

Tanishq's rate stood at Rs 14,315 per gram, while Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers quoted Rs 14,270 per gram.

Independent market-rate data also showed 24K gold in Mumbai at around Rs 15,371 per gram and 22K gold at around Rs 14,080 per gram on September 21. Such market-rate figures can differ from individual jeweller quotes because jewellery prices incorporate retailer-specific pricing and other factors.

Gold Rate in Kolkata Today

For Kolkata, the reported 22K jewellery rates were:

  • Tanishq: Rs 14,315 per gram

  • Malabar Gold & Diamonds: Rs 14,270 per gram

  • Joyalukkas: Rs 14,270 per gram

  • Kalyan Jewellers: Rs 14,270 per gram

The reported rates are the jewellers' daily gold prices and should be checked with the individual showroom before purchasing because jewellery prices can be updated during the day.

Gold Rate in Chennai Today

In Chennai, Tanishq quoted 22K gold jewellery at Rs 14,315 per gram.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers quoted Rs 14,270 per gram. The three jewellers had previously quoted Rs 14,285 per gram.

Gold Rate in Hyderabad Today

ET Markets' indicative Hyderabad rates for September 21 showed 24K gold at Rs 14,999 per gram and 22K gold at Rs 14,285 per gram.

IBJA Gold Rates Today: September 21, 2026

The IBJA's indicative retail selling rates for the morning of September 21 were:

Gold PurityIBJA Rate Per Gram999 Fine Gold (24K)Rs 15,30622K GoldRs 14,93820K GoldRs 13,62218K GoldRs 12,39814K GoldRs 9,872

IBJA also listed 999-purity silver at Rs 2,34,562 per kg.

These IBJA figures are indicative rates and are different from the final retail price of jewellery at a particular showroom.

What Is the Difference Between IBJA and Jeweller Rates?

Consumers may notice that IBJA's 22K indicative rate is higher than the 22K jewellery rates quoted by some retailers.

This does not necessarily indicate an error. IBJA publishes benchmark or indicative bullion rates, while jewellers publish their own daily selling rates for jewellery.

The final cost of a piece of jewellery can also include:

  • Making charges

  • GST

  • Wastage charges, where applicable

  • Stone or diamond costs

  • Retailer-specific charges

  • Design premiums

Therefore, comparing only the per-gram gold rate is not enough to determine the final purchase price.

24K, 22K, 20K and 18K Gold: What Do They Mean?

Gold purity affects both the gold content and the price.

24K gold is considered the highest-purity form commonly traded and is represented by 999 purity in the IBJA table.

22K gold contains a lower proportion of pure gold than 24K and is widely used for traditional jewellery.

20K and 18K gold contain more alloying metals and are often used where greater hardness or specific jewellery designs are required.

As purity falls, the gold content per gram decreases, which generally results in a lower underlying gold value.

Why Gold Prices Are Moving

Gold prices are influenced by several domestic and international factors.

The latest market commentary cited by ET pointed to movements in the US dollar, US Treasury yields, oil prices, the rupee and geopolitical developments as important influences on precious metals.

According to Prithviraj Kothari, managing director of RiddiSiddhi Bullions and president of IBJA, spot gold had closed the previous week at around $4,378, while the weaker rupee also amplified domestic gold prices. He also noted that jewellery demand remained soft ahead of the Dussehra and Diwali season.

Gold Demand Ahead of Dussehra and Diwali

The upcoming festive season is an important period for India's jewellery market.

Dussehra and Diwali traditionally generate higher demand for gold jewellery, although consumer demand can vary depending on prices, household finances and expectations about future gold rates.

Higher gold prices can encourage some consumers to postpone purchases, while others may buy ahead of important festivals or family occasions.

Gold Rate vs Jewellery Price: What Buyers Should Know

A quoted gold rate is not the same as the final jewellery bill.

For example, if a jeweller quotes Rs 14,270 per gram for 22K gold, a customer buying a 10-gram ornament should not assume that the final bill will simply be Rs 1,42,700.

The final invoice may include making charges, GST and other applicable components.

Consumers should therefore ask for a detailed breakup before making a purchase.

How to Compare Gold Prices Across Jewellers

When comparing gold jewellery prices, buyers should check the following:

  1. Gold rate per gram: Compare the same purity.

  2. Making charges: These can differ significantly between jewellers and designs.

  3. Wastage charges: Check whether these are included separately.

  4. GST: Confirm the applicable tax in the final invoice.

  5. Hallmarking: Verify the purity and hallmark details.

  6. Buyback policy: Understand how the jeweller values the ornament if you sell or exchange it later.

  7. Stone charges: For studded jewellery, check whether gemstone or diamond costs are included separately.

Comparing the complete invoice rather than only the advertised gold rate can help consumers understand the actual cost.

Is Today's Gold Rate the Same Across India?

Not necessarily.

Gold rates can vary between cities and retailers because of transportation costs, local demand, taxes, retailer pricing policies and market conditions.

Even when several jewellers quote the same base rate, the final price of jewellery can differ because making charges and other components vary.

The September 21 update shows that the major retailers covered in the report quoted identical 22K rates in several cities, but that should not be assumed to apply to every jeweller or showroom.

What Investors Should Keep in Mind

Investors tracking gold prices should distinguish between bullion prices and jewellery prices.

Jewellery carries additional costs that can reduce the investment value of the gold component. Investors primarily interested in gold as an asset may therefore compare products such as gold ETFs, digital gold or other regulated investment avenues separately from jewellery.

The suitability of any investment product depends on individual financial circumstances, costs and risk considerations.

Gold Price Outlook

Gold remains sensitive to global monetary policy, currency movements, bond yields, geopolitical developments and physical demand.

The latest IBJA commentary maintained a bullish technical bias for gold while identifying a broad spot range of $4,250-$4,450. However, such market views are not guarantees of future prices.

For jewellery buyers, short-term price movements may be less important than the timing of a planned purchase, the design required and the total cost offered by different retailers.

The jeweller rates and IBJA rates are different types of price references and should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

Bottom Line

Gold prices showed only marginal movement on September 21, 2026. Tanishq quoted 22K gold jewellery at Rs 14,315 per gram, while Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers quoted Rs 14,270 per gram across the cities covered in the latest update.

The IBJA's indicative rates stood at Rs 15,306 per gram for 999-purity gold, Rs 14,938 for 22K, Rs 13,622 for 20K and Rs 12,398 for 18K gold.

Buyers should remember that the quoted gold rate is only one component of a jewellery bill. Making charges, GST, wastage and other costs can significantly affect the final amount payable. Rates can also change during the day, so consumers should confirm the latest price and complete cost breakup with the jeweller before purchasing.
