India-Japan High-Speed Rail Cooperation Advances

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that discussions between India and Japan on the country's first bullet train project are progressing positively.

The collaboration remains a key pillar of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with both countries continuing to work closely on high-speed rail technology.

E-20 Shinkansen Expected in the 2030s

The MEA said that Japan's next-generation E-20 Shinkansen trains are expected to arrive in India during the 2030s.

The E-20 series is being developed as the successor to the current generation of Shinkansen trains and is expected to feature:

• Higher operating speeds.

• Improved passenger comfort.

• Enhanced safety systems.

• Greater energy efficiency.

• Advanced railway technology.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor is India's first bullet train project and is being developed with Japanese technical and financial assistance.

The project includes:

• High-speed rail infrastructure.

• Modern stations.

• Advanced signalling systems.

• Technology transfer and skill development.

• Collaboration between Indian and Japanese agencies.

The bullet train project is regarded as one of the flagship initiatives in bilateral relations between India and Japan.
