Population Census 2027 to Begin on January 25, Revisional Round Scheduled from March 1

The schedule for India's upcoming Population Census 2027 has been officially announced. According to a gazette notification issued on Friday by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, the main population enumeration exercise will take place from January 25 to February 28, 2027. A revisional round will subsequently be conducted from March 1 to March 5.

The notification also provides citizens with an option to complete self-enumeration before the beginning of the house-to-house population counting process. This facility will be available from January 10 to January 24, 2027. The self-enumeration window will allow people to submit their information ahead of the main census exercise.

Following the self-enumeration period, the scheduled house-to-house population enumeration will begin on January 25. The main exercise will continue until February 28, after which the revisional round will take place during the first five days of March. This additional round is part of the announced census schedule.

According to the notification, the reference date for the census will be 00:00 hours on March 1, 2027. This date and time will serve as the reference point for the population census.

The notification states that the census will be undertaken across all states and Union Territories, with certain exceptions. These include Manipur until further declaration, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Ladakh. The snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have also been excluded from the announced schedule.

The announcement outlines the key dates and arrangements for the Population Census 2027, including the self-enumeration facility, the main house-to-house exercise and the revisional round. Citizens and authorities will follow the notified schedule as the country prepares for the upcoming population enumeration.
