The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with the matches scheduled to be played from September 13 to 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana have been included in the squad, subject to fitness clearance. The same squad will also travel to Japan for the upcoming Asian Games later this month.
Sanju Samson and young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have also been included. Samson returns after being rested for the Zimbabwe series in July, while Arshdeep Singh is back after being given a break following India’s long tours of Ireland and England.
Bumrah also makes his return to the squad after missing the Sri Lanka Test series due to a knee injury sustained during India’s ODI series in England.
The three-match series against Afghanistan will be played on September 13, 15 and 17, with all matches taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital. The series comes shortly before India’s Asian Games campaign.
Afghanistan have regularly used India as one of their secondary home venues. The two teams last met in June, when India hosted Afghanistan for a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series. India registered a comprehensive innings victory in the Test before completing a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODI series.
India will be led by Shreyas Iyer in the T20I series as the team prepares for another important phase of its international campaign
